Senior Lingua is a service that allows language learners over the age of 18, to practise a foreign language with senior native speakers. Our application works in a very simple way: you enter the application and press the "Start call" button, you enter a waiting room where you can see the topic of the week and the questions you can ask when you are paired up, randomly, with the other speaker and soon a video call of limited duration begins in which you can talk about the suggested topic or about whatever you want.
To make calls, we call a senior citizen or student or send them a notification and give them 1 minute to answer the phone. If the person chosen by Senior Lingua does not answer after that minute, we move on to another person. We do this up to 3 times, after which we suggest trying to connect with someone of the same type.
If no one is found, the call is automatically disconnected.
If a message appears asking you to wait 20 seconds to make the call, try closing the application and reopening it.
If there are no active users, after 5 minutes on hold, we give you the option of connecting with another user in the same category.

Of course, At first there may not be many users on the application, so it is advisable to start the call doing other things while waiting and once there is another user to take the call. Keep in mind that if you leave the application you will only receive a notification that there are people available, not a call, so some users are using an old mobile phone while they are at home to keep it in the waiting room, waiting for users.

- Do not give out personal details such as identity numbers, accounts, exact address, etc.
- Look for a quiet place with good coverage to talk.
- Be polite, respectful and smile. Relax and enjoy the conversation.
- Start by greeting each other and introducing yourself, briefly. For example: Hello, my name is Alejo, I'm from A Coruña and I'm a teacher, what about you?
- Ideally, the student should lead the conversation and ask, but if the student has problems speaking, the older person can lead the conversation.
- Participate and let participate, for this you can use the highly successful and tested formula and after each answer add: and you?
- There is a timer for how long until the call is over, leave a minute or a few seconds at the end to say goodbye.
They are free dialogues in which we propose a series of questions on a topic that changes each week so that both participants can enjoy it . As in any conversation, students can move away from the suggested questions and talk about other topics, if both agree.

Challenges are fun little missions designed to make video calls more dynamic and engaging. Each week, within the conversation topic, students receive 2–3 simple challenges that they can try to accomplish during their conversation with the senior.
Challenges may include:
Getting the other person to say a word or phrase,
Guessing something, such as a song or film,
Asking them to show an object related to the topic,
Asking for a short explanation or anecdote.
They are not mandatory, but they help to activate the language, break the ice and make the conversation a more authentic and enjoyable experience for both parties.

We don't want users to end calls prematurely, so they won't be able to start another call for 30 minutes after the call ended abruptly before the set time. If this happens often, the person who ended the call will receive a negative review and a warning.
No, students cannot change talker. This is because we feel that one of the best aspects of the project is the exchange of ideas and cultures. We want people to know that they can express their ideas, because we want to give people time to get used to the different ways of speaking (of both participants) and because we want both people to be able to plan their day. However, if you find a conversation interesting, you can extend it for another 15 minutes.
Due to the design of Senior Lingua we consider it to be a safe application since:
- Registration is mandatory.
- Conversation time is limited.
- Pairing between conversation partners is made anonymous and random.
- No text or files can be exchanged during conversations.
- Calls are rated and problems can be reported.
- The chat option is only be available to paying students and will only be with people with whom you have previously contacted.
- We reserve the right to block users with bad reports, low rating, that not fulfill the rules and to report to police if necesary.
If a problem arises during the conversation, a screen appears at the end of the conversation asking both participants to rate it. If the rating is 3 or less stars, various types of typical problems will be displayed and rated.
The other participant will see this rating anonymously so that he/she can improve the reported issues in future conversations.
If problems persist, Senior Lingua reserves the right to temporarily or permanently ban members with a low rating who repeat problems, as stipulated in the terms and conditions of use.

Senior Lingua is a unique platform designed to connect language learners (primarily students) with senior native speakers. The primary goal is to "foster pleasant conversations and meaningful connections." It serves as a tool for students to practice language and learn about culture, while offering seniors an opportunity to share their language, stories, and wisdom and connect with others.
The platform distinguishes between two main user types:
- Students/Language Learners: Individuals seeking to practice a new language with native speakers.
The central function of Senior Lingua is facilitating real-time voice and video conversations.
- Initiating a Call: Users can start an instant video call via the "Start Call" button on the Home Screen. The platform uses a queue system to match students with available seniors (and vice-versa) based on the language being learned/spoken. The manual notes that in some cases, users may be able to connect with others of the same type (e.g., Student-Student or Senior-Senior) under specific conditions.
- Receiving a Call: Users receive an incoming call notification and can choose to "Accept" or "Reject" the call.
- During a Call: Standard video call controls are available, including mute/unmute microphone, turn on/off camera, and end call. A call timer is displayed. Students may have the option to request a call extension, which requires approval from the senior user and may depend on the student's subscription plan.
- After a Call: Users are typically prompted to provide "Feedback/Rating" on the conversation.
- The platform often provides a "Topic of the Week" or suggested questions to help conversations flow, although users are free to discuss any topic of interest.
Senior Lingua allows for planned conversations in addition to instant calls.
- Setting Availability (Primarily for Seniors/Teachers): Seniors can specify their available time slots for receiving calls in their "Personal Area" or Profile Settings. This helps students schedule sessions.
- Scheduling a Call: Students can browse available seniors (if applicable) and their availability to book a call for a future time. A scheduling request is sent to the other user (typically the Senior) for acceptance or rejection.
- Managing Scheduled Calls: Users can view, cancel, or potentially reschedule upcoming scheduled calls. Reminder notifications are typically sent before a scheduled call.
Beyond calls, users can communicate via text chat.
- Initiating a Chat: Chats can be initiated after a call or by students sending a chat request to a senior (which the senior must accept). Direct search and chat initiation may be available depending on privacy settings and application version.
- Chat Interface: The chat interface is similar to standard messaging apps, with message lists, input fields, send buttons, and message bubbles with timestamps.
- Managing Chats: Users receive notifications for new messages. Seniors may have the option to temporarily disable chat. There should be an option to block users in case of uncomfortable interactions, preventing them from calling or messaging. The ability to delete messages or chats may vary.
Senior Lingua includes an AI Chat Assistant for practice and quick inquiries.
- Accessing the AI Chat: A dedicated section or button for "AI Chat," "Practice Chat," or similar is available, potentially on the Home Screen.
- Using the AI Chat: Interaction is text-based, similar to chatting with a person.
- Functions and Limitations: The AI is designed for practicing conversations, asking questions about the app or language learning tips, and potentially simple role-playing scenarios.
